Hosted by Dan and Katherine Dimancescu of Lincoln, Massachusetts, and Dr. and Mrs. Eliot Sorel, Washington, D.C., guests included Sorin Ducaru, Romanian Ambassador to the United States, W. E. Garrett, ex-editor of the National Geographic Magazine, and scholars from the Smithsonian Institution. The Cosmos Club was founded by John Wesley Powell in 1878, himself a pioneering ethnographer.
